Lunging exercises - work which parts of the body?

Can anyone give me an idea of the different types of exercise i can do on the lunge to work different parts of the body??

Ie what would i need to do to help build up back/bottom area etc....?

Also i belieive transitions and good ( but not sure why???!!!! )
 
poles/raised poles helps engage the hindquarters
lunging in a pessoa on the longest setting is very good at working the whole body and getting everything to 'connect' its the only gadget ill use on my boy lunging, without it he just goes around with his nose up in the air which is pretty pointless!
