Just out of interest, can someone please explain the benefits of the Pessoa, side reins, draw reins, bungee, chambon etc.

Thanks in advance.

Or alternatively, the disadvantages of each.

I have a Pessoa - it encourages the horse to work loosely through its back and helps a lot with balance.
I guess the disadvantages of all of them would be in the way they are used, if they are too tight etc. or not allowing the horse to warm up first before using them.
I have used side reins a long time ago, for help with balance I think, but haven't used any of the others. Long reins are good, although takes practise to not get into a tangle!

I use side reins but have them going from the bit up over the saddle and clipped on the D on the opposite side. An old tip taught to me as then the side rein acts like a ridden rein as opposed to hauling the horses head down in line with where you attach on the girth. Saying that, i do not use them all that often. Long reining is great, but, as said, takes practice to not get tangled up!
