Decided to bring Indy back into work yesterday. She has had 3 months off since being broken in. Tacked her up with bridle and cavesson (no saddle - not yet Lol) and took her into outdoor arena. She set off in walk for 2 strides and then cantered solidly for 10 minutes bucking and messing about all the way

. She never acted like this when she was being broken in!! she was pulling so much her head was facing in while her arse was facing out. Eventually she settled down and i got a couple of good walk/halt transitions - after which i decided to call it a day, ending on a good note!

Now I am going back up this afternoon to try again and was just wondering if anyone had got any helpful hints and tips to make todays session a bit better than yesterdays!!!!!

as it was the first time id brought her back into work she had a bridle, cavesson and 1 lunge line - thought i would start of small and progress slowly again.
My arm is aching so uch as she was really pulling!!!!!!!!! have a really long lunge line and had let most of it out

you see - when she was being broken in, she was an absoloute angel - never a bit of problem, even when she was sat on for the first time. i was expecting her to be a bit iffy as she hasnt been done for 3 months but was not expecting what she did Lol

Yes but when you were breaking her in she wont have had a three month break, plus at this time of year all horses are going a bit loopy. Try her with two lines, you will have more control and will be able to stop her from turning in.

will try with 2 lines - hopefully will live to be able to come back on here tonight and tell the tale Lol

Must admit - was hoping to be able to get on her the back end of next week but her behaviour yesterday change that!!

Dont rush her, three months is a long time for a horse to have off, especially a youngster. One of our mares at work has just come back into work after the winter off and she wont be ridden for at least a couple of weeks and thats just because we dont want to risk injury. (The horse not us!!). Let us know how you get on tonight though!

hi you can not expect a horse to go back to the way it was when you left it will take time to bring that horse back to the schooling that it had you just need to stay possitive and need to put time in it of couse it will be silly for a while due to it not working for the last three months so is going to be fresh just be patient and keep doing what you are
