I'd like to develop my horses top line and work her long and low on the lunge. I don't think she would like a Pessoa so I was thinking of trying a Chambon.

How would you suggest on introducing it? I was thinking of warming her up first on the lunge in walk, trot and canter on both reins. Then attaching the Chambon and beginning in walk for 5 mins on each rein for the first few weeks (no more than twice a week) before moving on to trot.

Your thoughts and suggestions please!! This is all new to me, I normally try to avoid using gadgets.

Thanks

I think your idea sounds good, just don't put it on too tight to start with (I'm sure you wouldn't!). Chambons are very good for lunging, gets them going long and low without 'compressing' them which I think pessoas can do....

I agree.

I also use a bungie rein to work them into a contact (prefer this to side reins as I think it has more give). It is set very loose, and when they are working properly from behind they stretch long and low into the contact.

All sounds good to me. When I was rehab'ing my old mare, my physio recommended a chambon in front, but with the back part of a pessoa to encourage her hindquarters through more. Kind of gives you the best of both worlds - long and low, but without too much "pressure" which I think the pessoa can give.

(And I didn't have to spend a fortune on both, I made the back part of the pessoa with a roller and a couple of stretchy bandages)
