Lunging in a dually?

I have a dually halter arriving in the post shortly, and I'm hoping it will help my horse and I with groundwork and learning a bit more respect.

I've looked at some of the videos on YouTube, and it looks a good and useful piece of kit. I also see the idea that you can lunge from it too, which is useful and stops having to change over to a bridle.

My question is, can you use the dually with a "gadget" such as a pessoa? I don't actually use a Pessoa, I use a kavalkade lunging aid, which I like, and is easier to use, however it does attach to the bit rings.

I have to admit I did use it today on a normal headcollar as my bridle wasn't available, and just clipped the aid to the metal bits on the side of the headcollar instead of the bit, and it seemed to do the same job.

Now I know with the dually it has three rings, would it be acceptable to clip the lunging aid onto the schooling rings or not?

Possibly not - the principle behind the Dually is 'pressure and release' with release being the reward.

I would worry that by attaching a gadget to either ring on the nose piece would apply pressure that couldn't be released and could therefore cause problems. Same as you should never tie up using the 2 rings on the noseband in case the horse pulls back and panics, as again puts itself in a pressure situation.

I hope that makes sense!

Yes it does make sense, I haven't seen one close up in the flesh to see exactly how they work (I've seen them in real life, just not close up whilst on a horse!)

The kavalkade (if you don't know!) is basically a piece of rope that sits on the withers, feeds through the front legs and clips to the bit. The idea is not levering the head in or down, but just encouraging the horse to bring his head down; if he has his best giraffe impression going off, then he obviously isn't going to be very comfy.

So therefore made me wonder if you clipped the kavalkade onto the dually and pony sticks his head right up into the air, he will get a load of pressure on his nose; if he drops his head down into a nice low frame (which is what I'm doing with my horse) will the pressure then be released, or is the only way of releasing pressure "manually" via a lead rope?

I lunge & long rein in mine & ride if needs be (after dentist etc)
But I wouldn't use pessoa with it as that applies constant pressure with no release & could cause a lot of panic & confusion for horse

I put the lunge rope onto the dually & have a bridle(well, synthetic headpiece, browband & bit) that fit 's nicely under it & I put my lunging gadget onto the bit rings. However I sometimes, by mistake, put the gadget onto the dually as well & he seems equally happy like that!
