So proud of myself and Puzzle today! Have been spending time working on my voice commands whilst leading her, and now want her to begin to work independantly from me so bit the bullet and popped her on the lunge today!

My OH started so I could be by her head, and then she was so good I took her and she was FAB! Walk, trot, back to walk again, all on voice commands.

So proud :)

I do have one question-when she stands, she turns in towards me-any ideas how to encourage her to stand without me? Im sure it's probably a confidence thing.

Anyway, a few photos!!

Looking good!

Re the turning thing, I think it's practice. My boy used to do that, bit when he stopped I would always walk round to his shoulder, not walk to his head, to give him the idea that's where I wanted him to be. He seemed to get the idea quite quickly :)

When they turn to you, move sideways towards their hind quarters, it's hard to explain but you should keep moving so not at one point she is facing you. For a little bit you she might end up in circles trying to follow you but just keep parallel to her and she'll get it eventually. :)

The way I stopped my mare doing it was to gradually point the whip toward her shoulder as she was stopping. She picked that up really quickly.

Just out of interest why you are lunging in a Be nice Headcollar? I have used a normal headcollar but never a pressure one.

I would put a pair of gloves on too if I were you!

my baby has just started lunging too, and i find if i stand behind his shoulder ( if that makes sense) and kinda drive him forwards .. hes never turned in on me! i only say because in the third picture the girl seems to be ever so slightly in front of his shoulder? hes very beautiful though :) x

this is kinda what i meant.. i think haha!its hard to explain lol

Thanks all :)

I had her in her Be Nice because she had a previous habit of having a hooley in the school-but when she knows she's wearing her be nice, she doesnt!

I was slightly in front of where I should be to encourage her forward-but shall try standing back when I ask her to stand! I suppose it's just trial and error. Xx

Lovely pony, my old boy used to turn in, I could never stop him, and I could not use a whip as he would go loopy, so I gave in :( but he was not a youngster, looks like you are doing really well.

Btw my new pony is a dream to lunge, so I now love doing it again :)

Yea, her puzzle mark! Hehe :)

Thanks all. I'm so proud I'm buzzing. Silly over something so small! But she's my first ever baby so teaching them new things is something ive not done! She makes it look sooo easy haha, I'm very lucky.

And a publicity stunt-she's a WHW horse! Xx
