i loop it through the side rings then to the bit and between the front legs to get him to work long and low

Pessoas where designed to improve the canter .
You start with using the ring between for forelegs in trot to begin to show the horse the way as soon as confident move it to the lowest side ring
Then up to the middle one and you can try a bit of canter then your aim is to lunge on the high ring on the front of the roller which is about five inches or from the wither .
The aim is to lunge the horse mainly in the canter no more than twenty minutes for teetotal session including warm up.
Of how quickly the horse is ready to canter depends hugely from horse to horse.
In trot the Pessoa does risk putting the horse on its forehand it's was not designed for trotting except in the warm up .

This to start with but dont canter her like this. Once warmed up in walk and trot move to rings on side to work in a slightly higher outline then back down to the long and low to cool down. Working with instructor to improve horses canter and this is what she suggested.

Sorry I know how to use it was just wondering how others use it!
I don't find it brings the trot on the forehand, and actually use mostly in trot!
I only ever lunge for 20 mins as at pony club we were taught that 20 mins equalled and hour schooling.
Currently am using to rehab my tb mare after a stifle issue as per physio, was just interested how others use it
