Im just bringing my mare back into work after not riding for the past 12 weeks and moving her to a new stable yard etc...
Anyway after allowing her a week or so to settle into her new routine (being stabled at night from 24/7 turnout) I have taken her into the school to lunge her before I start ridden work. She hasnt seen a school for the past 8 months hence the move.
I wanted her to get used to all the different sights and smells in there first so was just walking her around in hand first but as soon as I let the line out she went absolutly mental and started bucking and farting like a wild horse and cantering around with her tail like a flag pole!! I took for ever to get her to come down to a walk but as soon as she did she stopped dead snorted really loud, changed the rein and did it all over again!
Once she stopped I walked her around in hand and she wasnt spooked by anything but her blood was up.
Was this just her getting rid of pent up energy and having fun and should I just let her get on with it.
She only has a handful of hifi good doer,a scoop of vits and mins and a scoop of magnitude, so I can't imagine it is feed related?
Im trying keep things calm and just walking etc...and she behaves like this!

Yep.

Personally I'd just get on and ride her.

Had exactly the same scenario, moved yards, had time off through snow then went to get on she was no longer the donkey I had and much like a total loon!! She deposited me in the corner of the school followed by much of the same, bronching, fart and squealing!! I then lunged for a week gradually introducing side reins, pessoa and a few trotting poles and then got on once it was out of her system!! Up until that point she had never behaved like that but it was all new and exciting.

If you do decide to get on probably best to lunge first to calm her down! Good Luck x

My lad, 17yrs young, easy and calm to ride in the school, on the lunge is an absolute loon, always turns himself inside out leaping, snorting and bucking, tail up in the air, and afterwards he does a big sigh as if saying, 'ahh, thats better'. We call it his 'getting out all the creases' phase!

mines the same, generallky settled when ridden (they all have there moments!) even if he hasnt been ridden for a while but whenever we lunge him he's fine in walk, ok generally in trot but decides to canter whenever he wants buit instead of cantering nicely he gallops, bucks, leaps about, crazy and takes ages to settle down. he normally does the same when asked to canter. anyone got any ideas to settle him down to trot on the lunge until asked to canter and to have a settled canter? last time he pulled his shoe off and practically threw himself on the floor galloping round until he was panting and sweating. plus he's 17.1h so hard to hold on a circle on the lunge like that!
