Don't laugh! I'm a novice at lunging, and my horse either doesn't listen or leaps about in a trot/buck/canter when I ask only for a walk. He is getting frightened and I am getting worried!! Any advice?

Just a headcollar. He did it fine the other day but didn't understand what he was meant to do at all yesterday and went into a skidding rampage! Don't want him to get frightened or get an injury, just want to get some fizz out of him before riding!!

I had a horse who was bad to lunge - to the point of dangorous. Could you possibly loose school instead? or maybe get a helper to lead him on the outside while you are lunging in walk?
Also maybe try him in side riens? and a roller? But some people dont really like sideriens

What you need to consider is he may never have been lunged before, or he may have had a bad experience with it in the past. I agree that you should start with someone leading on the outside, I always do that with young horses when I lunge them the first few times. I would put him in a bridle, and perhaps attach the lunge line in the gag line style as it will give you more control. Personally I wouldnt use side reins incase he gets even more upset, but theres no harm in a roller. Above all just remember to stay calm with him, if you get upset you will confuse him more

i got ahead of my lad when lunging asked him for a bit more than he was capable of ,he came at me full speed having a totally hissy fit .be careful and wear a hat and ask someone for help .
