Please can someone post pics of how tight/slack side reins are to be when lunging??? I want to do more with Ty and have some elasticated ones but dont know how to have them. I dont want to have them so slack they dont do anything but on the other hand i dont want them so his head is strapped to his chest!!!

As a guide I put my little finger on the bit spread my hand then put the side reins up to the tip of my thumb then would have it a little looser for a more novice horse,

Sorry I don't have any pics but as a guide when your horse has its head in a 'normal' rest position the side reins should be an open hands width from the bit when taught.

When working the side reins should mirror a normal rein position and therefore should be taught but not tight when he is holding his head in outline position (generally head is vertical)If your horse is not used to working this way work gradually up to it.

Maybe google some pics?

I personally am not a fan of draw reins and prefer to use a de-gogue or pessoa as the horse is less inclined (IMO) to fix against them and generally work better.
