My lurcher has been showing signs of a sprain in her carpal joint, and I wondered if anyone has seen similar and if so what is best to do about it. She's 5, non-working. She hasn't done anything extreme recently but obviously being a lurcher loves to hurtle about with little regard for her health and safety, and frequently comes back with scrapes and strains. This particular ouchie has been going on for a few days, no one could identify when it happened.

It seems to be her carpal joint (I think - the one with the stopper pad) - there's no cut or graze, no discernible heat, and no pain on palpation of the joint or any others in that leg. She doesn't like the stopper pad being touched, although she never has so this is nothing new. When lying down she doesn't straighten the bad leg, and likewise when standing the leg is broken at the carpal joint and she stands on her tip toes on that leg.

She seems quite happy walking and trotting around, with the occasional limp, but was worse on waking up and first getting up in the morning - very hoppy, and then it seemed to get a bit better.

My general thought is to keep her restricted to the lead until it improves - can anyone else shed some light?

Thank you!
