A message from the Countryside Alliance

Dear all

It is important to realise that whilst the rural community is deeply upset at Lush's misguided decision to support the Hunt Saboteurs Association, any sort of direct, abusive or tactical protest, illegal or legal, is not appropriate and such action will most definitely not be supported by the Countryside Alliance.

The major issue with the Hunt Saboteurs is that they have a long history of violent and direct action, which causes danger to horses, hounds and people; not that they are anti hunting. There are other reasonable organisations that have a history of organised and peaceful protest, and perhaps Lush should have looked into these options prior to supporting an organisation whose members many see as violent extremists.

Whilst we appreciate that fox hunting is a divisive issue on either side, the best way to protest about Lush is either with your pocket or by contacting your local and national papers and voicing your opinion.

The use of direct, abusive and tactical protest by hunt supporters achieves absolutely nothing other than being incredibly detrimental to the countryside community to get this bad law repealed. While repeal is a possibility everyone who loves and supports hunting should do everything they can to protect its reputation and help promote it as an accessible and inclusive activity.

Please do not hesitate to contact chloe-finch@countryside-alliance.org if you have any further comments.

Best
Chloe

I've just been on Lush's Twitter page and cannot believe the arrogance of replies they've been sending to people.......I wish people understood what a dangerous organisation HSA are.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it weird that a cosmetic store is campaigning against animal cruelty - don't they sell make up tested on animals?? Or does that store not?

Lush are against animal testing. Thing is ALL products used in makeup and cosmetics have, at one time, been tested on animals.....maybe years ago but unless it's a new product, it would have been tested on an animal.

HSA are the same charmers who used to ensure horses fell at jumps etc in the 90's. I haven't had dealings with the recently but i'm guessing they still use the same tactics.

No, Lush is extremely anti animal testing. Nothing they sell is tested on animals, including ingredients.

This current campaign is one of many different ones they've run to date.

Quite simply... not true.......... as PR says LUSH themselves may not of tested the ingredients or anything in their products, but at some stage every single thing they use will HAVE to of been tested on animals, wether it be 20 or 100 years agoi... or would have to carry warnings such as "may cause blindness"... not really a great selling slogan!
Oh and does the countryside alliance really give that much of a toss that they feel it necessary to issue a statement on an internet forum?? odd

Excuse me Chloe, but that is a HUGE assumption to make that "the rural community is deeply upset". Actually, no we are not. A lot of us in the country are NOT upset about this at all. I couldn't care less if Lush support the HSA. I am against fox hunting and although do not agree with any violence, I also do NOT like the fact that the CA always seem to assume that everyone in the country supports hunting.

The CA haven't said anywhere that everyone in the countryside supports hunting, nor have the implied that.
I think they are posting here because there has been a huge reaction to the Lush campaign on this forum.
