I wouldn't. I use a Snuggy Hoods Turnout Hood - doesn't move at all and is shower proof. Mine was out in hers last night as we were at a show this morning.
Shires do one that doesn't come over the head - it just goes around the ears.
I wouldn't use one with a full or half cover, in case it slipped over the eyes in the night. I'd happily use one that didn't cover the face if the turn-out rug was a full neck, I'm not sure I'd turn out in one without a full neck, as I imagine it would be pretty grotty if it rained in the night!
I have used a snuggy hood for mud damage reduction..... but it used to creep up around his eyes... never into them, but close enough to rub the hair off a bit.
I dont think its exactly the right size for him, but the next size down was a bit too snug
Dress circle bodies state only for stable, however I have used it over night in the field but only with a t/o rug on top. It is a very snug fit on my cob and he is sensible and does not roll everywhere. I have never had mine move or slip and did put him out for a few hours when at the yard first to see what happened.
I now have a snuggy outfit which is designed for field use.
We had a horse at our yard get one of these off at night, his stable was a complete mess in the morning and he had obviously paniced a lot when it went over his eyes, and therefore he couldn't see.
I dread to think what could've happened if he had been in an open field. I'm not sure what make it was though, but I think this one was solely designed for the stable.
