lycra rug bibs

I have a similar problem and this year I bought from Robinsons a quilted, lycra lined shoulder guard that does up at the front (I have huge problems getting anything other than bridle/headcollar over my boys ears). This year I have no rubs at all - and not v expensive either!!

the lycra ones can make a real mess of the mane by the withers and didn't really help the rubbing .Best sort are the bossys bibs ones which move around , expensive but worth every penny!

Yuk- dont use lycra ones they cause more problems than they solve. I used one for a month thant rubbed the mane raw- I now use a Roma satin one which is just like the bossy bibs one but half the price and had absolutely no problems!

I have the worlds worst rubbed horse whether he is wearing top of the range NZ or bargain basement. I have finally found a solution after 2 years!
Bossys bibs with a quilted over the top. He has NO rub marks and if you saw his shoulders they are normally totally rubbed. I am so pleased with bossys bibs!

Just a thought and don't shoot the messenger lol but if these rugs or bibs are rubbing the horses then why bother with rugs at all? I mean after all in their natural environment horses don't wear rugs do they unless you count their coats.
So far as mine are concerned mine are not rugged up much. In winter big lad is rugged up as he gets stiff in his hindquarters and I'm trying to preserve heat and flexibility in him as he is only in his late teens now and I don't want it getting worse if I can do anything to help. The cob is mostly white and a bugger to keep clean hence why he wears a rug in muddy winter fields. Otherwise both would be bare unless we had a very harsh winter.

Oh right sorry didn't realise that he was clipped as that does make a huge difference as regards to wearing rugs to keep warm and being more prone to rubbing too.
I hope he is managing to keep warm in this weather as it has gone from being terribly wet to dare I say bloody freezing!

so i'm not the only on with a fal thats rubbing .thought i'd got a size too big for him. just ordered a lycra bib off ebay might get a quilted one just incase. happy days

Bossy Bibs!!! Whatever rug I buy or however it gets altered my mare gets rubbed on her shoulders. I have got loads of different bibs and Bossy Bib is the best...I also have a Weatherbeeta lycra which works very well.
I have also rubbed in aloe vera if a rub has started before bibs are used...ie. she can sweat in them if used in too nice weather. This has helped too.
