Hi guys I have a dirty horse who likes to sleep in his poop - especially the night before a show. Any recommendations on a lycra full rug to keep him clean?

I know people love the full circle ones but I can't get hold of one in his size now they're bust - anyone got a medium sized one for sale?!

Thanks a mil Vx

Although helpful, poop will still soak through a Lycra rug especially when lined up carefully with the white patches by said horse. I use a stable rug with lycra head and neck cover because I find the rug is a better barrier. I've still awoken to a brown neck and plaits before. I'm starting to think that the horse is quite good at outwitting all my efforts!

As Orionstar says, we have a grey & even when you wash them the night before a show he's always used poo as a pillow in the night & it will always soak through & you'll end up washing some areas again. It's one of the things you have to get used to, specially if you have a grey.

The only thing you can do is always assume he's going to be mucky & arrive at the yard earlier so you'll have time to clean the mucky bits again. If he's clean then that's a bonus. :)

Glad im not the only one with a grey who uses his poo as a pillow!! Only he does it, the others who are bay dont... think they must love being cleaned! Thank goodness for babywipes (get anything off). However have found his snuggy hood has made stains easier to get off as they do provide a barrier! x

How about one of those Rambo Dust Buster rugs - the lining really gives their coats a good shine, and I think it might have a material that poo might not soak through - worth a look?

I have a masta body suit that I use the night before a show, it's not the best in the world but it was cheap. I also put fresh shavings on top of a big clean bed so the poop will 'drop' into the bed more and there is less chance of it being right under his body. But I also have to bandage his legs so he doesn't ***** on his stockings.

I've also been recommended using tubi grips to keep legs clean (not doubled over for pressure) - anyone tried that?!

I use a lycra head & neck cover with summer sheet. I also bandage over longer gamgee, so knees & coronet bands have more chance of avoiding stains. I've also come to the conclusion in dry summer weather its easier to leave out with full fly sheet & plait in the morning than it is to get rid of stablestains. Dirty grey mare.

There are quite a few out there - snuggy hoods do a good one - they are great for "laying" the coat and keeping the worst off, but put a full hood rain sheet/LW turnout on too to keep the worst of the "wet nasties" off too!

I found that on a nice dry summer's evening (been dry for a while ie dry ground) it is best to wash, dry, then lycra to the ears with LW turnout (pref with hood) on and chuck em out. Space vs poo ratio much less in field vs stable! Then in the morning go up early, scrub socks again and touch up any nasties before show. Tip of the month - put on nail varnish and chalk socks before leaving for show then bandage (not boot) to help prevent poo spillage......

Get one with a "belly guard".

My pony lives in a lycra hood - amazing - love em! You can get ones now that are headless so you don't have to worry about your loved one being blinded by the hood slipping ;-)
