Does anyone have any experience of this?
My friend went to feed her 4 month old orphan foal this evening and noticed that her hind legs are completely filled up to the hocks and her front legs are filled to just below the knee. The fluid pits with pressure from your thumb so definitely lymph but they are hot and sore. My friend phoned her vet immediately and he said it sounds like lymphangitis as a secondary infection. He said to give her half a sachet of bute and he will come in the morning if there is no improvement. The foal is eating and moving around normally although we were unable to take her temperature as the thermometer has gone walk-about
I have seen this before in adult horses but not in a foal so any advice would be gratefully recieved.
