My Arab is just recovering from a bad bout of lymphangitis. It's a condition that I don't know very much about having never experienced it before. He never had any wounds or anything, the vet said it was just something that can occur. I am concerned about the long term management of the condition as the vet said it is likely to happen again, I just wondered how other people manage the condition and is there anything I can do to help reduce the chance of another bout?

Any information would be gratefully received.

I have had the same experience too, not nice, the vet said it was just something that happened, on the first occasion there was a tiny cut but on the second we couldnt account for the lymphangitis at all?????

I have tried to keep my boys legs clean and dry when I can and groom and check them daily, feather clipped all year round, I found that excerise and plenty of turn out helped keep swelling down, also Hiltons do a herb supplement called Cleavers and Marigold, that has helped a little too.

Lymphangitis can be effected by lack of movement (used to bring full blown attacks on with Ted), a high protein diet, certain toxins in the ground (mainly on land that has been grazed on by sheep.)

Cleavers are ment to work well (never did for Ted, but his was a severe case)
