Does anyone have any experience of this in horses?
My friends horse chewed all of his chestnuts off due to mites.. the yard has goats that a FREE RANGE and are riddled with mites etc, apparently they have been treated with everything, yet, Mr G is not getting any better, he is a heavy cob…. Who previously had lots of feather, now had legs shaved right down etc….
Anyone any ideas?
☺️

It can be very painful but get the pain meds and antibiotics in, cold hose that leg and when the horse is able to move get it moving. A brisk walk several times a day. That’s what I was advised and it went away in a week and didn’t return. Never found out why it occurred in the first place but of course it was on a Sunday ?

Exactly my experience, including the fat leg coming on a Sunday for no identifiable reason. It came up extremely quickly as he was fine when turned out a couple of hours previously. It was treated with (I think) IM antibiotics for 5 days as well as painkillers and I walked him and cold hosed several times a day. Mine also made a quick and full recovery but equally the outcome can be very serious. Time to follow up with the vet again if it's been going on for a while. Maybe it needs a different antibiotic?

Ask the vet about water tablets, we were also advised to feed fenugreek seeds to help reduce fluid retention, which did seem to help - but then our mare was a recurring case so perhaps if it's a one off that won't be needed. Other than that, what everybody else has said.
