Hi all,
What colour hat, boots and gloves would I wear with this brown tweed jacket with black velvet collar and pockets?

I usually wear black for local but I know it isn't correct but I can't help but think any other colours would look odd with the jacket having black velvet on it??

It's not bothered me much until now when we have our first BSPS M&M class on a grey section A on Sunday! But I don't want to stick out as the amateur so want to be as correct as possible.

I'm trying the yellow duster trick with a shirt and jods, will it work on nylon jods? If not I can buy some more tomorrow when I go shopping.

Sorry for the essay!

Thanks :)

Navy hat it wont look odd even though you have a bit of black on the jacket, I am guessing you mean short boots ? If yes then I would say brown, the green waistcoat is fine with a green tie, not sure if the duster thing will work with jods as my shirts always come out a bit patchy but as you only see the collar its not a problem, shires do cheap canary jods for maids as I have bought a pair, and they are so much cheaper than ladies if you can fit into them. Good luck and have fun you will look very smart:)

Thanks :) i usually buy kids show stuff so jods will be on the list. My shirts going a lovely colour but jods don't seem to be doing much. Good excuse relegate them to daily jods and get some new show ones I suppose haha.

I've got short brown boots so need to source a navy hat which is easier than brown as i have been told is the only colour acceptable for showing but have never seen in a ring......and would it be brown gloves? Hopefully we won't stick out too much!
Thanks for your help.

Brown goves indeed and good for you for giving it a go. You've picked a good time of year as our local BSPS shows are very quiet after HOYS and before the novices come out in the Spring. Good Luck

If you enjoy yourself and decide you want to do a bit more you could always get the velvet bits of the jacket replaced with a diff colour like dark navy. :)

Can you do that?!
I may just invest in a new jacket for next season depending on how we do, this one is rather ancient and just making do with it until next year. Can't justify spending out on a new one just for 2-3 winter shows when we are just beginning the serious stuff really.

On the plus side my shirt has come out beautifully, jod's not so well, they've just darkened slightly and the hot wash hasn't done anything to remove the grease stain.... :(

Thank you :) it's BSPS area 4a although we are going straight into the open because the Novice class has a risk of clashing with my MRI scan Sunday morning :/

Another thing is my tie... It's the same green as my waistcoat but has small Welsh dragons and horse shoes on it, it's a Bangor Racing tie but I think it's appropriate for a welshie class or would it be frowned upon for having a pattern??

Also does it matter what colour the restricted armband is for BSPS? Most people say white but I've seen a few responses that say red??

Sorry for all the questions lol
Thanks :)

PatterN on tie should be OK, as long as it's small. Many people do wear red armbands for restricted, white is fine too, anything goes really. Just check if members of that area will be wearing armbands for area members rosettes and make sure you don't wear that colour (if you are not a member). Our area doesn't do member's awards at Winter shows so you should be OK.

Thanks :) not a member yet, just seeing how it all goes, i cant see anything about members rosettes in the schedule BUT my scan has been moved so looks like we will be going for the Novice A & B class now and maybe the open mixed m&m for experience if he's a good boy :)

How did you do? If you want a second hand jacket, I find the best place to look is Horse Gossip forum. Lots of people advertise top quality showing gear on there. I have just picked up a brand new jacket for my daughter for 70 including postage - cost £170 new! If you are going to show with the affiliated bunch the attention to detail is quite important but no so important as how your pony goes! Take a look at the Equinational web site for turn out tips. Also, always ask the judge for advice! At the end when she gives you your rosette ask him/her - most will give you advice happily but make sure you smile and say thank you and dont disagree! They dont like it if you ask and then disagree!

We came 4th in a class of 12. The judge said Smurf could be a bit more forward so try feeding him something with more energy but at the end of the day he is a child's LR and FR pony so that won't be happening. He'd of gone forwards if I'd pushed him more but it was his first show and a BSPS Show at that, his first time indoors and he did exactly as he was asked without batting an eyelid at anything. Im absolutely over the moon with him :)

I'll definitely check that forum out, thank you :) I'll be after LR outfits for next year lol
