Hi,

I'm doing a M&M Working Hunter Pony class with my Section B in 2 weeks but have no idea about how showing classes are run.

Please could you advise on; tack/turnout for pony and what I should wear (adult showing pony), and what will be expected of us?

Thank you.

For the pony:

Plain bridle - no fancy browbands (metal or ribbon)
Bit - Any bit is acceptable, pelham is more traditional but the simplier the bit the better for workers. Same with nosebands.
Martingales and breastplates may be worn.
Boots may be worn for jumping phase
Saddle should have a numnah that is self-coloured and as discreet as possible.

Yourself -

(I'm going to give the run down of what you should wear. At local level, do what you can to wear the correct turnout but do not panic about it. They will not throw you out the ring for it!)

Hat - ideally velvet with flesh coloured harness in brown, navy or green velvet.
Shirt - pastal coloured, or white/colour striped
Tie - patterned and toning in with your outfit
Jacket - tweed
Gloves - brown leather
Whip - Plain brown if necesary, if not carry a plain brown showcane
Jodphurs - beige, yellow or cream
Boots - Brown jodphur boots, even adults on small breeds should wear short boots

Your hair should be in a simple bun and netted. Avoid scrunchies, ribbons and buttonholes altogether.

You will go into the ring individually to jump the course. Go to the judge, say good morning/afternoon, and wait for their instructions. On their command, jump the course at a hunting pace. Once finished, halt, salute the judge and leave.

It then depends on the judge. If there are two seperate judges, one for jump and one for ride, you will then remove the boots and head to the next judge. Again speak to the judge first, then do a short personal show showing walk, trot and canter on each rein, and a gallop.

If there is only one judge, you will leave the jumping ring and wait for all to finish jumping. All will then go into the ring at the one time to do a go round as a ride. You then line up at the stewards command, then do the personal show as above.

Good luck and enjoy! :)

Thank you, that's really helpfull. Can't seem to ride unless I'm wearing my long boots, but think I can manage the rest. Just hope the little bu**er behaves himself!

Used to do M&M classes and M&M working hunter BSPS with my section B many moons ago.

As MissSBird says, sounds like exactly what I used to wear and what he used to wear!!
