We have a Welsh sec B and would like to do the occasional worker but not too seriously. At the moment his mane is pulled should I let it grow or is it ok to plait. My grand daughter is jumping 2 foot showjumping courses at the moment and has done some working hunter jumps. He is 128cm is that the size of course he will be expected to jump she is 7.

If your doing M&M then don't plait, it'll be fine pulled though as long as it's not stupidly short, you do see some with long manes and some pulled. Height wise I think novice for NPS shows anyway are max 2ft3 for 122cm-138cm. Unafilliated shows might vary though but wouldn't of thought they'd be any bigger that 2ft3 really.

Many sec Bs are shown in plaited and M&M workers, let the mane grow so it looks more natural but not too long, the M&Ms must not be plaited for their classes, they should be shown in natural state according to breed rules. A B can be trimmed discretely, under jaw, ears, bridle path, a little off the tail to enhance it.

The M&M 1st ridden workers are the ideal class for your pony, the courses are around 2 ft, not sure of exact heights but they tend to be very inviting, until you get to the Champs then they are rather more demanding.

At local shows the heights vary. I've seen some workers at barely 50cm, and others at 80cm (though that show was aimed at adults I grant).

At affiliated shows you do get set heights, but I've no idea what they are for that age group/pony height. Sorry! But (until someone replies who does know), the Native Pony Society and British Show Pony Society should have rule books available on their websites, and somewhere in that will tell you the maximum height/spreads for 128cm natives, and also the age/heights for cradlestakes which is the class for very young kids. I'm pretty sure she would be eligible for that age wise, but pony may be too big...

What I can answer is the plaiting question. Don't plait for m&ms, ever. The welsh Bs are the epitome of the un-natural 'natural state' that you see in the show ring. Let his mane grow to about 4 inches and keep it fairly neat and thin. You should still be able to plait it easily enough, but it's 'long' enough to look ok when he goes in as an m&m.

Just to say, your daughter would also be able to do plaited workers on him and many welsh Bs do compete in both classes very successfully. So plenty of options!

The mane depends on wether you want to do M&M workers or plaited. If M&M then as long as it's not too short you will be ok with lightly pulled and tidy, same for the tail.
If you want to do non serious/ unaffiliated then the heights will probably vary depending on the show.
The affiliated class heights for the 128cms M&M's will depend on which society. HOYS/RIHS classes are now 80cms at the qualifiers.
Other open classes (NPS) are 85cms, novice classes are 65cm.
I'm not sure about plaited heights!!

For plaited classes you need this info:
128cms is the right size for the 133cm classes - (13hh) Novice, Restricted, Open - and Nursery.
For Nursery Stakes, riders are not to have had their 12th birthday before the 1st Jan in that current year.
Std Nursery classes are 60 - 75cms for jumps with a spead of 70 - 100cms
Novice nursery heights is: max 60 with a spead of 55
Then heights going up for Novice, restricted and open 13hh classes.
Check out the BSPS rule book, am sure it will give you all the info you want :)
Unfortunately, your pony is too big for the starter clases - Cradle Stakes which are for up to 12hh (122cms)

Otherwise, never plait for any M&M classes :)

Good luck & get out on the winter circuit to have a go :)
