They came to my stables today to tell me they will not be bringing him back to us.
He has been at my stables for 6 years ,since we bought the land. The arrangement has been we see to him every morning as they go to work during the day[ weekends they come up to ride] They then muck out late afternoon and put him away and if we are all at work in the afternoon ,they put ours in and rug up, that happens about twice a week.
I do 6 shifts of 3-11pm then 2 off and my daughter also does shifts which mean sometimes she is on evenings when I am.
He will be fully stabled for about 3 months and they have to walk him out .They are going to another friend who no longer has horses but has a stable and field and electric [we have no electric and cannot live or build a house on our land]
I am glad he is on the mend but so sad he is not coming back to us.I fully understand their situation, they need to have lights to see to him before work and at our place he would get upset when the others are turned out.I have given them a stable mirror that I am not using and he will have sheep for company.
My problem is finding someone as good as them , they were reliable and safe and their horse got on with Rafi[ I have put the tiny pony out with him and they are fine]. My daughter has rearranged her shifts for January so she can see to them each night but at some point it is going to be impossible.
Great news that he can come home soon but sad he is not coming to us.Selfish ,I know.
They have left a stable full of shavings which they say to use ,there is no risk in putting them into another horses stable is there,he had colic and twist gut but it can't be anything contagious, can it?
