Just heard he is slightly better today and has been led out of stable to nibble grass while he was mucked out.
They said they had to resusitated him during operation and didn't expect him to live but he is still with us and did a small sloppy poo today.He is being fed just a mushy food which he hates and has lost loads of weight.They say after this he could get laminitis but my friend was a bit upset and didn't know the details.
he is stitched from his sheath up to his point of hip so not a pretty sight.They have to wear gloves to touch him and scrub their boots and it is still early days but thanks everyone who sent him healing vibs.
 
I am so glad that he is fighting... that is half of the battle already won in my opinion!!!

So does his scar not run along his midline like other colic scars? Grace's was her small colon, not sure whether this is the same but there was no twist just a very gassy build up

I haven't seen it but sure she said from sheath to hip.The twist was in the large colon so suppose it would be different.Think the bill is already around £3000 and as he is 17 years old he has no insurance only third party.
They said he must be a strong horse to survive so far, his gums are a better colour ,they were very blue.They have tested for salmonella and another thing she can't remember.He is not on haylage just hay but does tend to get the runs quite easily.
 
Poor boy... when I was being told everything about Grace I had to phone back several times just to check I had the right information as I sort of zoned out as soon as they told me she was ok!

Grace was tested for salmonella, and they do it over 5 days and culture it... she should have the results for that back within 5 working days but usually get some preliminary ones back around day 4

a friends horse was cut on barbed wire once and they had to make a claim. they were told that they couldnt claim on barbed wire again. they live on a large working farm and taking down all the barbed wire was just not posible. they chalanged the insurance company and they can still calim on barbed wire if need be ... perhaps you could try the same?

This is the best news today, he must have such a lot of fighting spirit along with all the healing HHO vibes being sent. Its good that he is interested in nibbling at the grass too. How is Rafi coping without his fieldmate?
