Lily is not at all keen on having a headcollar or bridle put on. She's not head shy as such, more fiesty and independent. She'll stick her neck as high as she can and then poke her nose up in the air so I can't physically reach it. Short of a lassoo does anyone have any suggestions?

haha mine has a similar trick when putting the bridle on, rests his head on the top of the wall of his stable so i cant reach! I found either giving him a scratch (which he loves) or holding a carrot in my hand really helped

See you'd think that treats would help but they don't really. She'll lunge at the treats and then flick her head back up again before you've had any chance to shackle her.

Lol at the thought of me trying to put down a step stool in the field at the moment! That's just a You've Been Framed Moment waiting to happen as it topples over in the mud and I slowly sink into the mire.

That said, £250 would be very handy right now....

*wanders off to find a step stool and video camera*

Good idea though, will pinch the mobile mounting block for when I'm on the yard.

pop your reins over head so they sit just behind the ears, and then apply even gentle pressure, may take a few mins for horse to get the idea but they do generally bring there heads down.

possibley add a bit of molasses on t the bit so he head comes down and you go to shove the bit in, its s sort of reward/reason to keep head down.
