mad on the mares

my gelding lives on a yard were its not a mixed herd he was gelded as a 4 year old and is now 7 but when a mare moved next to him 5 days ago hes stood at the same spot of the stable stareing at her until yesterday she came in season and the stable looked like a bomb had hit it . his front hoofs were full of white paint were he,d been strikeing the wall he hadnt even lay down the other side of him lives a gelding and hes fine with him apart from yesterday when he came to look what was going on my lad flew at him with his ears back and teeth out . he did once get into the mares field and got himself in a right state when he got brought back to his stable how many geldings do you know are like this to ride handle and look after hes fab once a mare comes along his privates are all on show and hes a pain . also wondering why he was gelded at 4 its a bit late if your going to geld eney info hes an irish horse i bought out there and brought back
 
Have a word with your vet who may be able to recommend something to quell his excitement.
Things you might like to try are RigCalm or Agnus Castus which is a herb for stroppy mares but works on calming excited geldings too. There are several similar products on the market and you may find you only need to use them for a few months.
