I am looking to get a bespoke jacket made, something that will hopefully last me a lifetime! I am mainly showing M&M (Connemaras) Ridden and In Hand and also some working hunter.

Could anyone give me any ideas of how much this would cost and which companies are the best? I would love to see pictures..........!! I have been looking for second hand Bernard Weatherill's but they are few and far between!!

Im not sure on costs but Mrs Candy is a company with an excellent reputation

If you are on Facebook there is a group called Show Gear for sale and Wanted where quality jackets crop up daily

Truly bespoke is quite expensive - you are tAlking proper tayloring which can cost about 2k for a tweed jacket. Any of the saville row tailors will help - I have used Philip Alexander in wilmslow and have heard good things about Goldings too...

Made to measure is much cheaper and equiport do a nice job at about 300 to 500 ...

Bespoke & made to measure are a little different. Bespoke can cost an absolute fortune as has been mentioned. My daughter had a made to measure tweed jacket from Equiport & it's a really beautifully tailored jacket made from beautiful material. It was made a few years ago so I'm not sure on current prices. Give them a call & they'll tell you. They're very helpful.

I bought a pattern online, bought the fabric I wanted, found the correct buttons online, and took it to a local seamstress. Total cost was about 250.

I had a similar experience with some specialist historical dancing shoes. A national company quoted me about 2000 for a custom-made pair. I found a craftsperson who specialises in historical shoe-making, and she made a truly stunning pair, including lasts (I had to send about a billion measurements and stuff of various parts of both feet), that was with me within 10 days of ordering, for about 350.

I got a made to measure tweed from Le Beau Cheval for £225 including postage 2 years ago. I went to see her in Lancashire to be measured, discuss styling and see her works.
I am still delighted with it. There was a huge choice of fabrics and then you could define every aspect of it. Mine was no velvet but a bright green lining!
