I was subjected to a stressful morning on Sunday, I was due to go to work for 2pm in A&E (which I was not looking forward to, as it was such a gorgeous morning) I'd washed Ralphs mane, tail and fetlocks the day before so that I could get down early and trim him.

My first encounter was a loose pony that had kicked his door so much the bolt came undone. He's new and I was not sure what he was like until I tried to catch him and the ears went back followed by a swing of the hind quarters......I moved as quickly as I could (I'm not quick on my heels at the mo due to an accident) and my heart hit my mouth at speed, then the cavalry arrived and we managed to get him in

Back to Ralph and his feathers.....Oh no the Von Trap-Roberts family have arrived and all hell lets loose, the dogs are now eating Ralphs feeds and his apple has gone

In tow of the Von Trap-Roberts are some more children, which takes the amount up to 6

One of which is about 3 foot high so, I assume the little pink welly bootied mass is only about four......

I carry on with ipod turned up and give Ralph his brunch, less the apple

He's not happy

I'm just finishing off and have swept up outside my stable and turn around to find a bright pink mass stood right behind Ralphs legs

Lucky for this little person, Ralph is the most gentle of amimals, hastily I moved her away and knowing who should be in charge of this little person, I went to the tack room where Mrs Von Trap-Roberts was sitting eating carrot cake that she had made for everyone

Who does this little person belong too???? Oh me, well I said I found her standing behind Ralph and although he is a good boy, he might not be and I really do not want to rescusitate a child before I get to work.......Thank YOU.

Why do people do it? So I went to work with the hump and explained my story to all my friends at work, who have no idea about horses and were obviously horrified

I'm always amazed at some parent who seem to think that allowing your small child to wander freely through a busy yard with large and small horses/ponies on it is alright? Until of course their child gets trod on or kicked then they will be onto "no win no fee" peeps without a moments hesitation and no realisation that in matter of fact they were neglectful in allowing the child to be in that position in the first place.

My 4 year old boy comes with me to the yard and he does walk around within my sight but he has been bought up with horses since he could walk and therefore knows he shouldnt walk behind them. to the point where he tells me off!!

If something was to happen to him (god forbid) i wouldnt be the type of person that would sue for damages i would just make sure he was alright and leave it at that. I dont think its neglectful (shoot me down if you want) i have always taken my lad up with me and always will.. He loves being around the horses and enjoys it so much he likes riding a 15.2hh tb.
