Maggoty breath ( my dog not me!)

Any tips - my dog is gorgeous but has the most vile breath- o/h says it smells like maggots.
She is on Bakers complete biscuits (no meat)
Can you use human toothpaste on dogs?- she will not touch those dentastick things as she doesnt understand anything that resembles a bone! she will only eat stuff she can chew once and swallow!
 
Get her off to the vets for a dental check. If she isnt chewing on things then it may be she has a tartar build up that needs removing.

Ours are on Bakers and we have no problems with the food giving them bad breath so I suspect its not her diet.

She is getting on a bit now so i suppose things will start to deteriorate-although she is really healthy and not showing her age at all!
 
I agree it sounds like she might need her teeth scaling or poss some taking out depending on how bad they are. Sounds like a trip to the vets is in order.
After this you can prevent her tartar building back up by brushing her teeth but you need a doggie toothpaste instead of a human one because human toothpaste is designed to spit out - something to do with the amount of fluoride in it I think - so you need one that is safe for your dog to swallow. Logic or CET are quite good.
 
Oh dear my parents will not be pleased- i dont live at home any more so she stays with my parents!
I will take her as my dads a meanie and will say if its not hurting her she will be fine-grrrrr.

As for the chewing thing she has always been like that ever since we have had her ( age 3-13) the only treat she will it is schmacos (sp) !
 
human toothpaste fine but only use a pea size amount or less depending on size of dog, tarter control type may help.
i wouldn't worry bout the fluoride as most of it is peeed out. small kids swallow lots of toothpaste and the only problem we very occasionally see is mottling of the teeth shouldn't be a problem for doggie
 
Mine has bad breath from time to time but that's because she loves a cat pooh snack when she can find it. She's then usually really pleased with herself and wants to kiss me on the face. BLURGHHHH
