My Hunter has got what looks like mud fever or a very nasty fungal thing on all four heels. He had it last season and I tried everything to get rid of it but it just keeps on coming back, getting worse with wet ground.
Anyone got any suggestions as to any magical potions I could try. I've already tried most mud fever creams, caneston, purple spray etc...

Try pig oil mixed with sulpher powder, it is great for mud fever type things. Mix to a custard like consistancy and slap on liberally every day.

Very cheap remedy

I swaer by Gold Label - Wondergel. It has aloe vera and tea tree oil in it and works on everything, from small cuts to promoting hair re-growth.

My horse had what did look like mud fever on all four heels and around his coronet bands. I cleaned it with Hibiscrub, towel dried and applied Wondergel to the areas everyday. It started to clear up in days and was totally gone within a week. Any time I notice it coming up again I do the same treatment process and get it before it even starts. If you try it, hope it works for you as well as it does for me. x

Another vote for P&S and if you can leave on his hair on his heels to provide a natural drain. Once mud is dried the oil makes is slip off easily and sulphur is excellent for skin conditions.

Don't keep washing it off, let the oil build up as a barrier but as you have a horse not blessed with lots of hair, you will need to apply it daily or at least every other day - if you want a very long PM about P&S, let me know and I will send it to you.

You can also mix the following up and apply to his heels - works really well with the P&S

1 big tablespoon of sudocream, 1 heaped teaspoon of sulphur and 5 drops of tea tree oil - this really helps as it protects and the sulphur and tea tree are excellent for skin conditions.
