I have trawled through the archives, but can't find specifically what I'm looking for. I have bought Equine America Magnitude, as it says ingredients: Magnesium oxide. This is probably a really thick question but everywhere I have looked this magnitude is just displayed as a calmer. Will it work the same for barefoot diet?

have read descriptions on magnesium calmers and they all say about keeping the nerve endings in good conditions,, but is it the same substance which also helps use up the sugar and keep bare feet strong?

Thanks in advance for a barefoot numpty.

You just want magnesium oxide, calling it a calmer is just the good old horsey industry adding the 'horse tax'!! A lack shows up as nervy behaviour, and can also show as footyness in the barefoot horse (like any deficiency!). It is the same stuff, but to save a load of money just buy magox (equimins is the cheapest I have found, email them for the price list).

I shouldn't worry, we bought magnitude at first as we just wanted them started on it asap and didn't know where else to get it from! It is expensive compared to magox, but compared to other 'calmers' it is way cheaper so I wouldn't worry too much.

My mare is on Magnesium Oxide (heavy) too and i buy if off Ebay. I bought her to help contain her however she's kept shoes on brilliantly with it
