Hi everyone,

Just got my KWPN 8yr old gelding a magnesium supplement as recommended by the vet.

He is a super talented showjumper so is fed well as he is a competition horse so needs a "spark" but with that spark he does loose his head sometimes as in the whole world is out to eat him

I've been told this type of supplement takes the edge of them but without taking away the spark needed for competiton.

Just wondered if anyone else was using it for a similar thing and if it works or not? Just bought the Equine America one last night so no change as yet :D but would be nice to know any good/bad feedback

Thanks :)

I've been supplementing magnesium for a year now to address a significant mineral imbalance in my hay; that said, since I've been doing so my mare has gained both in energy and in focus and is much less prone to spook, she'll still look at things especially under adrenaline of competition but is much less prone to actually react.

Thanks for that, sounds just what I need! Thats what he lacks in, focus, he just looks at everything else around him rather than what he's doing! :D

I have used it with my stresshead horse. I used to get the equine America one but now I get it from pro earth on ebay as itbis cheaper.

Yes I recommend it as long as you are aware it is only replacing magnesium that is not present in the grass as is the case in most of the UK - it works for me but it may turn out your area is not that low and it may do nothing!

I use cheap stuff too, does the job :-)
