Premier equine have their 20% discount today in their magnetic range. I have generally been sceptical about whether magnets are actually effective but a friend has suggested trying them for my mare who has had some relatively minor ligament problems and as they are in offer I am tempted but would also prefer not to throw my money away!!!
Has anyone had any experience/thoughts good or bad??
Thanks!

I think magnets do have a postitive effect. My boy wore bioflow magnetsevery day after his diagnosis for arthritis in his knee and did far better than the vets ever expected.

Also I have to be very careful handling them as when I've tried the magnetic bracelets myself, they actually make me pass out. I wasn't expecting them to do anything so can't say it was placebo but as soon as the demonstrator had put it on my wrist, I was on the floor!!

Hmm interesting. I think one if the reasons im not convinced is that no one has ever come up with a convincing way that they actually work. I've heard that they're supposed to increase blood flow but I would've thought if that was the case that would be quite easy to prove in which case why isn't there more evidence to support it?

It depends on the horse and on the problem. Someone recommended them when I was at my wit's end with my arthritic mare, she was on the maximum dose of bute possible and still hobbling, pts was on the cards within the week.
Bioflow agent brought a pair up and advised putting them on the fronts for 24 hrs, taking them off for 12hrs and then back on for 12 and so on. I brought her in bout 7.00pm and put them on, put her out in the morning - still lame but maybe a bit of improvement. At 7.00pm that evening, she *trotted* in, looking sound as a pound on the firm ground. We kept her for another 3 months until she unfortunately had a stroke aged 24, she wore the boots most days but we changed them onto different legs. I thought that she knew they had an effect because she started to pick her feet up for me to put the boots on, without being asked
I've used them on other horses without the same dramatic effects but with some improvement but then, none of the others was ever as bad she was. I know someone who uses them on a prone to laminitis pony to good effect, as part of her management regime and has done for years.

I got magnetic boots for my boy when his legs filled like balloons when he was stabled for the first time in 2 years. Unfortunately they took so long to come in the post I think his legs sorted themselves out by the time they arrived. He's had them on for a couple hours every day recently though as he's been on box rest and his legs haven't filled at all. Don't know if that's got anything to do with the boots but I'll continue using them anyway just in case. There's nothing else I can do for him to make him recover any faster from his fall so they're worth a go at least.
My friend works at an equine therapy centre and she swears the magnetic rugs work with loosening up stiff backs etc. Apparently horses relax so much with them on they fall asleep. There again they my be falling asleep with boredom lol

I tried a pair on an elderly mare with arthritic fetlocks. She was noticeably better, but I couldn't decide if it was the magnets or keeping her fetlocks a bit warmer that provided the benefit.

I find they work. I had visible reduction of hard cold swelling, and pain relief on an old injury and I couldn't care less if that was due to placebo effect or not.
The improvement is what matters to me. I use them on my horse because I think he benefits.
I'd love to see a proper trial though, over a period of time, with bio mechanics as a measure.

Ive been looking into these too. which one do you all use?
ozpoz thats a good idea, would make a intetesting magazine article.

Someone on here did do a study into the use of magnets on horses for their degree (I really wish that I could remember who it was). Anyhoo... they got the same improvement from using a blanket/leg wrap without any magnets in.

Well, if a blanket/legwrap could have wrought the same change in my mare as the magnet boots did, someone could be a millionaire by now, selling bits of fabric.

Plenty of people do make money selling leg wraps/support boots without magnets. :p ;)

If you're happy using it and see an improvement in the horse, then use it. :)

The placebo effect is very real and very powerful after all.

I used the Premier Equine magnetic boots on my mare to help her with her tendon injury and I do believe they helped.

I also currently use their magnetic rug on another mare for her kissing spines, it has definitely helped her. Physio told me today to begin riding her now...

I have Bioflow boots, bought them for my previous horse. I used them on my current horse after a days hunting or a long day travelling.

My previous YO had a horse that did a Tendon and vet recommended 6 months both rest, she used the boots everyday and vet was happy for the horse to be turned out in a tiny paddock after 3 months. This is a very well respected vet and he was gobsmacked at the improvement.

My husband also used to borrow them after playing football and he'd recover much quicker after a game. I tried them on once and they made my teeth go funny  (to many fillings) and made me feel ill.
