Hiya,

Not sure if this should really be in Vet but I'll ask anyway....

Im looking into getting some magnetic boots for my horse as it has been recommended by a friend, Storm is in during the day due to being a "fatty" and the flies but her back legs are filled a little although it does'nt effect her and she works perfectly well I don't really want my 4 year old having constant filled legs, and she said this would help.

Has anyone used them for this reason and what are the best brands??

Thanks S x

Can only reccommend bioflow as I used them on an older mare that always got a filled back leg if she stood in, also used them when she got a touch of mud fever.

My friends horse has been wearing magnetic boots for a while to cure a splint, and i have to say they do work! The splint has gone down quite a bit after a few weeks of use.

Im afraid i dont know what make they are.

I use the bioflow tendon wraps for my boy, initially bought them for treating a windgall on his hind fetlock, but also as he has OCD in the stifle, somebody said that the magnet therapy is meant to work all over the body(??), I have found him to be much less stiffer. he wears them at night, very pleased with them :)

I have some magnet wraps designed to go around random joints and have used them to help reduce filling. They definitely work, but would love an identical wrap without the magnets to see if the effect is just due to the extra heat/support given by the material! Used them on an arthritic horse with windgalls and was intrigued that the windgalls reduced and he seemed less stiff, but again, due to the magnets, or just the extra heat(=blood flow?) and support??

I have the Premier Equine ones and they have been really good. I got them to help with the recovery of a tendon injury but according to the instructions they have many uses. If you look on their website it will tell you more. They were half price in the sale at £26.99 so a bargain if you like them, I do and they helped my mare.

My 19 year old mare has windgalls and her legs fill when standing in. She did her check ligament 6 months ago leaving her on box rest for 3 months... Filled legs were a constant pain and I felt like I spent my whole life bandaging.

I bought the Aerborn magnetic wraps - they are wicking and soooo effective. Her windgalls became non existant (they return once the boots are taken off after a while) but the swelling around the check ligament disappeared and the filling in her legs.

Best 60 quid I have ever spent - although there is little scientific evidence supporting magnetic therapy, testimonials are all too positive to ignore. Plus my Dad had a knee opp, used a magnetic wrap and was amazed at the pain relief it gave him.

I think the equilibrium ones are fab too, a little more expensive but didnt look as cosy and wicking as the aerborn ones. The aerborn ones also cover the loading hock joints where she has had cortisone injections in the past for DGD. Any way I can increase blood flow to the area is good, and the wraps do it perfectly.

Go buy them now and let us know how you get on.
