Magnetic Head pieces - eg Barnsby

Well we have one on a very sharp and quites stressy horse. He's going brilliantly since he's had it but we've also changed the calmers he's on too and that was at a similar time so can't say which is working but the overall effect is good!!! They seem quite hard and go against what i think of as all the comfort head peices which seems strange but liek you say if it works theres nothing to lose. Are they on ebay cheaper?

Yes - borrowed one off a friend and the result was amazing with my horse - she though had not noticed a difference - offered to buy it and she said no, would try it again and let me know.

Typical - she now likes it so had to buy a new one which arrived yesterday - TDS £59

Difficult to explain hopw it worked! My lad is 18yo and works at Med/Adv Med level BUT has always been a horse that needs alot of warming up to get flexible (obviously as he is older this is understandable)

Problems I used to have were :
Leaning on right rein
'Lazy' off hind
Very difficult to maintain flexion - was fine when fixed onto flexion but if I asked him to bend inside the second I let go of the rein he would ping back to centre like a bit of eleastic.

Tried FTS Headpiece with very sceptical mind:
From the second I got on he was looser in his stride
Maintained flexion asked for without having tol hold rein
Generally easier to ride - he can be a bit bully him into things then he will give in and go nicely and can be very spooky

Used friends for 3 weeks and never had a bad day of work.

Very occasionally on ebay but tend to be in the 'shops' so as dear as TDS anyway

I just dont like the thought of putting a magnet over the horses brain basically! Especially as some humans say they get headaches for a while at the beginning of using magnets on themselves. Hmmm..... I do use a magnetic rug and brushing boots but havent noticed a particular difference with those but then again I dont use them regularily (not practical).....

I use one, it is the barnsby magnetic comfort headpiece and i would say it has helped , my horse is not nearly on his toes as before. I wear a meagent by Bioflow and it is a great help.

HOW MUCH!!!!

Jeez someones doing a lot of ripping off!!!!

I dont think the magnets make an ounce of difference.

HOWEVER I think the reason people are seeing changes in their horses is because these headpieces are WIDER and MORE PADDED than standard ones. There is greater distribution of pressure which leads to less discomfort for the horse.

For anyone who has lashed out £80 on one of these magnetic ones I would be really interested to know what happens if you swap it for a wide and padded version with NO magnet in it.

Spaniel

I swapped from a comfort headpiece to the magnet.

As an in between borrowing mates magnetic piece and buying one I used a neoprene headpiece cover over the comfort headpiece - the difference with the magnetic one is marked on my horse - other people though have not seen any difference.

I am one of the most sceptical people ever and would never have bought one if I hadn't tried it first (I too though £59 for a headpiece was ludicrous!)

It may be that my lad is older and it helps - I don't know - I used it 15 times before I actually believed it worked (and ran over it with a magnet as I didn't believe there was actually anything in there!)

I also tried 3 disc shaped magnets above the comfort headpiece and inside the neoprene cover - skinflint? me? never? and it made no difference at all - horse went back to being retrictive and tight and gobby - also video'd to check I wasn't doing anything different

Thats interesting. I wonder if those who see a change are horses with some sort of underlying, but very specific, condition?

It will be interesting to see if others have had the same results as you have.

Spaniel

Not sure - he's never had a problem apart from being gobby and stiff till he's very warmed up (he's 18 now and the warm up takes a fair old while) but with it he's different from when I get on. He works Adv Medium and is competing (when I ever get out at Ele/Med) previously BSJA'd to fox. Always been a very easy horse just naturally built to be heavier in front.

It's a pain you are so far away else I'd say come and see the difference - so hard to put into words! But I'm Peterborough way which is a long trek from you!

Shame its such a trek! Im always open to ideas yet have seen so many occasions where magnets are heralded as a major cure all only to find its normally what they are encased in thats done the trick!

Maybe one day I will get over to your side of the UK!

Exactly the same as me - have to see something actually work before I'd buy it! If you are ever my way you are more than welcome to come and see!
