I have just bought a magnetic leg wrap to put round an injured hock (recovering from bursa infection, flushing out etc). Wondering if anyone has had any success/experience with magnetic wraps. Also why shouldn't they be used if there is still heat in the area. There is still some heat in the hock although Callum has been back from the vet 2 weeks now. He is sound and off painkillers and antibiotics. He in on box rest, with 10 mins in hand walking twice a day.

lots of posts and threads on here about magnetic therapy
magnets promote circulation which can create heat - but also stimulates the lymphatic system and so can help clear fluid

I use magnetic threrapy on myself with success but you must not use it for longer than the 12 hours specified and then take the boots/wraps off. I am not allowed painkillers of any sort whatsoever so I utilise magnetics to help with arthritis and rheumatism on myself and it DOES work

(so for those sceptics - try not using your paracetamol and use magnets instead and see if they work !!)

I can second the effects of wearing a magnet, I wear a bioflow bracelet all the time and without it i am unable to move my left arm/shoulder at all. with it although in a little discomfort I ride everyday and event my horse at novice level regularly and do all the fittening/ lessons myself. I cant praise the magnet enough!

Give it a go but make sure you follow any instructions that come with the wraps, I know for the first few days i wore the magent i had a headache (normal initial side effect) so bear this in mind with your horse and make allowances.

Good luck!

My boy has arthritis in the coffin joint and I use magnetic pastern wraps on him for between 20-40 mins a day.
I read quite a bit about them before using them and found that they reduce inflammation and improve circulation. I can't say they have worked miracles but I believe they do help certainly with stiffness when coming out of stable and loosening him up before work.

For Cairo they really do offer pain relief. He has the type that are worn 24 x 7 - thin straps and I never take them off. He has worth them now for the past two years.

On the odd time I have had to remove them, when he went for cancer treatment, he was far less sound. Popped them back on and with a few days was back to what is normal for him.

He has typical old heavy horse joint problems - low ringbone.
