My horse is slightly cold-backed, more so when he's not been worked much. He's currently on box rest, and by the time he's sat on again he'll have had most likely a couple of months off at least.

I'm slightly dreading getting him back into work, as previously it has resulted in me getting bucked off many times and losing confidence. I've heard that magnetic pads may help, and was wondering if this

was the kind of thing to use?

Would I just put it on for half and hour or so before tacking up? What exactly does it do?

My old horse used to be slighty cold backed and was much better if I lunged her before riding. In the winter I warmed her numnah on a readiator before putting it on which seemed to help. Have also heard of people using the microwaveable wheat bags and laying them over the horses back whilst grooming to warm the muscles.

Echo this otherwise I groom mine then put on saddle ,put rug over .Then brush tail , clean feet ,put boots on,go sort my stuff , then bridle giving back time to warm up .All the time keep putting girth up by hole at a time this works for me.

the wheat bag things would be a cheap bet, and just as effective Jen. As someone else suggested, lunging for a few mins (5, maybe 10) before you get on is a good thing, especially when he's fresh off the box rest!

hope he's on the mend!
