Magnetic Rugs……

Can anyone provide me with any useful info as to whether it’s worth me investing in one of these and if so any recommendations for some good ones?

I have an armadillo rug that I use on my gelding who has had a kissing spine op. I really don't know if it's done any good as don't have anything to compare him to, but he really is coming along very well with his rehab. I use it for two to three hours prior to lunging him.

We bought magnetic pads and I stitched velcro into an old lightweight rug to use with them. The horses certainly seemed to like them but I can personally vouch for them after tucking one down the back of my jeans when my back was particularly bad. Brilliant, the heat generated was amazing and the pain definitely disappeared whilst wearing it.

Although carrying out true 'blind' studies of magnetic therapy products is difficult, there is no evidence to show that magnetic products have any positive medical effects.

There have also been a number of legal cases where producers/sellers of magnetic 'therapy' products have had to admit there is no evidence of efficacy and that they have made false advertising claims.

Taken from Professor Finegold's article in the British Medical Journal

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. If there is any healing effect of magnets, it is apparently small since published research, both theoretical and experimental, is weighted heavily against any therapeutic benefit. Patients should be advised that magnet therapy has no proved benefits. If they insist on using a magnetic device they could be advised to buy the cheapest—this will at least alleviate the pain in their wallet.

A quote I was 'given' fairly recently, and always useful in threads like this; 'the plural of anecdotes is not data.' ;) :)
