My horse has been diagnosed with artiritis and I am wondering about magnetic boots. However I am getting mixed opinions at my yard about whether they work or not. What does anyone think. I really do not want to waste my money as just taken big pay cut.

My OH swears by them, and has any number of boots, wraps and goodness know what else for her mare, who suffers with a kick related stiffness in the rear legs. She is convinced that they work and even our farrier and vet have agreed.

I remain sceptical, as all my scientific training tells me it's nonsense, but I can't ignore the evidence of a happy fizzy mare (and the horse is pretty cheerful too!).

Bioflow are her preferred option, which she bought from the USA via Ebay.

I have found the back on track rug has helped my boy - he is much looser in his back after wearing it .- not magnetic, but works on the same things, a friend of mine has seen a marked difference with her horse using the stable boots
Here is the link to info

if you do think about getting some , the best value I found in Ebay

I have a pair of Bioflow and I do think they make a difference.

I have equilibrium magnetic stable chaps for my boy. He has had arthirtis in his hocks for a few months but more recently it became apparent in his knee. he was lame for 3 weeks despite being on 2 bute a day. He improved and is no longer lame but was evidently uncomfortable whenever I picked his feet out and on one occasion nearly fell over. he would also 'groan' at times when he bent his knee and would pull his leg away drawing it forward rather than putting it straight down.
I bought the boots which I can leave on all night and within a couple of weeks if that he is now able to pick his feet up and keep his bad one up until his foot is done and puts it down again normally. No more groaning, completely sound and so much happier (me & him!!) He is gradually coming back into work and the magentic boots have contributed to this massively!!!

My 24 yr old TBxWelshD mare made her arthritis worse when she jumped over the electric fence to reach her best friend (who was just finishing her tea). A few weeks later she was absolutely hobbling on 2 bute per day, with no sign of any improvement at all and could not pick her feet up for us. In desperation ( the alternative was pts) I rang our local Bioflow agent, after recommendations from a friend, who came up that evening with a pair of boots. The mare wore them that night. I took the boots off in the morning and put her out. That evening, she TROTTED in, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, she appeared to be sound and continued to be so for the next 3 months - December to March - when unfortunately she had a stroke and had to be pts. She knew that the boots were helping and offered her feet to have them put on after the first few days. I have lent them to friends who have had mixed results and have used them on some of our other horses with some benefit but have not seen such dramatic results again.
Could you borrow some boots to try before buying your own?

Well, I would say 100% yes, and after my OH called it witchcraft he has posted here that I believe it works. They were recommended by my back specialist, vet and farrier. My lovely mare has had lameness on and off now for many years and every time she gets bad and the vet comes out we start with the magnets! I do have wraps which are good for fetlocks and windgalls, I have brushing boots - bioflow she wears for long periods and during exercise which I swap with NEW brushing boots as the bioflow wrap right round and get sweaty - they draw out impurities so when you first use them expect grime and smell! They wash easily enough though and dry quickly too. In the field she wears NEW over reach boots on the front to stop her pulling her front shoe off and kicking the back of her knees poor thing - had to get the vet for that too

I do have magnetic hock boots Harpley Equestrian previously Aerborn - neddie isn't too keen on these BUT they do make her lift her hind legs up which she would NOT do before. I also bought a magnetic rug from them which is in resesrve just in case.
As an aside I did leave her boots off overnight one day and not put them back on in the morning as I had to rush off to work. She was crabbing terribly that evening. I felt bad and got the boots back on asap! They do take about a month to really get going according to my back specialist and I would agree.
I also swear by glucosamine msm and cider vinegar in her little feed every day, also a small dose of no bute as she is becoming arthritic/stiff. She was on bute for a goodly while this summer but the turning point was metacam. Expensive but worked. Best advivce from the back lady - if it is under £500 for the vet bill pay it yourself as if you have problems later you don't want your insurance company to have excluded the legs! Magnets can be found on ebay or at Harpley Equestrian. There, time for breakfast! Good luck.
