Might turn into a bit of a debate... oh well!

What are your experiences and opinions of using magnets, such as BioFlow and the like??

do they have a place in your horses lifes or are they just a fad?

I got a bargain pair of BioFlow brushing boots from a charity shop in December- they were £5, so I had to have them!

I'd looked at the BioFlow website, and have used them on Red after we've been hunting- they stopped him getting stiff, and then last week, I put them on Solo after he'd knocked his leg- his legs didn't fill over night and were cold the next morning, his windgall's seem to have gone down too, and he isn't stiff in his hind fetlocks (mild athiritis) on a morning. Which can only be a good thing!

So, your opinions please....

Well, I've always been a disbeliever of this sort of thing but a while ago had aches and pains in my fingers. Tried painkillers and Ibuprofen creams etc which helped a bit. But then bought some high strength round magnets about the size of a 1p piece and wore them every night for a week inside gloves.

Finger joints stopped aching and haven't done since.

So I think possibly they do help.

My sisters share horse is a 15-old ex-racer with a bit of arthritis and he is considerably less stiff since he got his Equilibrium boots to wear overnight, so think they have definitely helped. (His owner is also on here - what do you think G?)

There is a lot of sound reasoning why they don't work. However, in Cairo's case they do something.

Several years ago following x-rays and nerve blocks we discovered lots of arthritic changes - low ringbone. He was stumbling at a walk and on 4 bute a day. Invested in straps from magnetic - best type for a horse with lots of feather. Within a week he was far more comfortable and down to 3 bute, a week later on 2 bute and trying to trot and the following week off bute completely. When he had them removed for cancer op, he went lame, put them back on and he came sound. Vet was suprised at how he recovered. We changed nothing other than putting on magnets in his routine.

Recently the back legs have come up with problems, bit of bone where ligament attach snapped, huge bowed tendon as a secondary problem from this.

I bought another set for the rear, tendon reduced by a third in a week and continues to go down and pain killers were reduced from 4 to 2 within 2 weeks.

Personally I won't remove Cairo's straps - he has worn front ones for nearly 3 years now.
