One of my playing horses has arthritis in both hocks, she's on a good joint supplement (Equine Americas Kentucky), but I'm keen to get anything else I can to help her particularly when she's sat penned up at a tournament for the weekend. I've never used magnets on a horse before, have people found them to be effective and which ones are best; Bioflow boots, those bands, anything else?

I havent, but one thing I find really helps is keeping the joints warm and dry. Hock is a bit awkward but my gelding wears the thermatex leg wraps at night and they have definitely helped with his arthritic fetlocks.

I got two of these fetlock bands for my mare who has arthritis in both hocks and both front pasterns and coffin joints.

THey have not made her come sound (but then her arthritis is fairly advanced) but they do help with stopping her legs swelling whilst being stabled overnight which is a good thing ! The advantage of the bands are that you can leave them on all the time whereas the ones enclosed in a boot you are restricted to a few hours.

I have the equimagnets rug, which came with two free leg wraps. I can't give a scientific answer to whether they work or not, but they do make him lovely and warm, which I think can only be a good thing where muscles are concerned - unless they are injured obviously!

I agree that it's better to get something that keeps the legs warm instead of magnets, a lot of research suggests magnets do nothing anyway. I use Premier Equine Stable Wraps on one that is on box rest and another who is in full work......have seen a huge difference in the worked one in that he isn't stiff in the morning :)
