Hi, I use them for myself and my horses. They certainly work for me, I also think they help my older arthritic horse. They don't usually work 'straight away' think you have to use them for 2/3 weeks to see any difference. My old horse wears them most of the time.
so what's the science/logic behind them please/ what are they supposed to do? (just exploring all options now as my girl has recently been diagnosed with hock arthritis).
Cairo had low ringbone and was on 4 bute a day and still very lame. Within four weeks of wearing his bands 24 x 7 and he wore them until he died four years later,he was off bute and 1/10 lame on left rein and 2/10s on the right on a circle, and my vet said he was fine to ride again.
He was still on occasion enjoyed a gallop on the right ground and do a few low jumps, the only thing my vet advised me to stop was any work involving tight circles and fast turns, though the daft old bugger still would barrel race and play like a two year old with my youngster.
The bands come from http://www.magnetic.uk.com and you can buy just one if it is only one leg that is the problem.
Re the NEW magnet boots, what would be the difference in using the hoof boot or the brushing boot ? if the hoof boot does the same then you wouldn't get the sweating problem and I was wondering then if they'd be good to turn out in ??
I have the bioflow wraps. I pop them on for a few hours if I ever see any puffyness, or stiffness, or if I've done some really hard work I'll pop them on overnight to avoid filled legs in the morning, but to be honest I'm not sure if the magnets made any difference, compared to if i were to bandage normally, without magnets.
My old horse had quite bad arthritis at the end of his life and he wore the bioflow boots daily, along with the medication that the vet prescribed him. It made me feel better that I was doing all I could to help relieve the old boy's pain. When I asked my vet, his response was 'use them if you wish, it's not going to do any harm'.
I wear a magnetic bracelet day and night and feel it has helped me with several things including a joint injury.
I also have magnetic wraps that I use on my horses (arthritis, splint or any injury) as I believe they help increase the bloodflow to the effected area. Bioflow are good too. Watc it isnt on too long or too tight as can make them sweat depending on the type. I liked the wraps as can be used on front or back legs anywhere.
My oh calls it witchcraft! I wear a bioflow magnetic bracelet as I had tennis elbow - pain free now! My mare had terrible laminitis, fetlock wraps recommended by my farrier made loads of difference to her recovery. I then got NEW hoof boots and fetlock wraps as I thought they could be useful. Last year she had windgalls I bought bioflow boots for all round as I thought they would be better than the NEW and they matched ( what a fashion victim eh?) sure enough much better. She then had puffy hocks so I bought the magnetic hock wraps from Aerborn, Whilst she didn't like them very much they did reduce the swelling. She has had some trouble with back stiffness so I went the distance and bought a magnetic rug for her - just in case it happened again as she is 17. During the frosts and snow she managed to gallop around on the hard ground and was diabolically stiff. She had bute and metacam then I remembered the magnetic rug which I put on under her turnout and she wore it 24/7. I could honestly not believe the difference. I use all my magnetic therapy as and when. My NEW boots are all on loan to a friend whose pony has laminitis. I recommended bioflows to 2 other friends who bought them and have been delighted with the results. They may be expensive but the results really are worth the outlay. I am a total fan.
magnets basically increase blood flow to the affected area this increases oxygen and nutrient transport to aid cell regeneration.
My mare was diagnosed with hock arthritis at the age of 11 and she wears a magnetic hock boot when stabled, it does get hot under there but that is due to increased blood flow. It really helped my girl. and my vet (who was a bit sceptical about magnet therapy) said that hes never seen a horse do so well with arthritis so yeah they are definitely worth a go!
