I cannot believe it. Someone has pulled our fencing down and made a huge hole. We put it up about two weeks ago blocking a short cut people had made across our field ( not a legal right of way) We have put up polite signs saying private etc. Until people stop doing this we cannot put any livestock on the field although am tempted to borrow farmer friends bull!

Why don't you electrify? Or put electric fencing within the perimeter with a ruddy good zap on it if they tamper with it? I think you will need to post signs it is electrified though. What about a sign, 'Dangerous Animals, no admittance', something to make people think twice.

Yup. Electic fence with a good zap (and pleanty of signs

).

Could you borrow a nice, athletic bull to put in the field for a few weeks

I know what you are going through, as we had this problem when we bought our land 8 years ago. It took very strong fencing and time to end it. Good luck.

It may be easier and more socially harmonious to put in a stile and accept people use it as a shortcut. I'm sure it is frustrating but agitating the locals can have dangerous repercussions (I can too easily imagine the headlines involving horses being stabbed etc

This is not an option, one the reasons we bought the land is to stop people using it. It very much encroaches on our privacy and we have had problems with people's dogs coming into our garden fouling it and chasing our kids etc. The old lady who lives next door has even had people looking in her windows. Most people have been fine, there is legal right of way about four hundred yards up the road.
Also if we did that it could suggest the establishment of a right of way which could detract from the value of the land.

Electric fence with lots of warning signs and perhaps one that says:

'No Public Right of Way'

For some reason the word 'Private' drives people bonkers - like you are personally rubbing their face in the fact that you own land.

Funnily enough when I was clearing out the rubbish people have kindly dumped in there over the years I disturbed two snakes so maybe that would be a good sign to put up!

We have this crap all the time as we are at a public park, twats feeding the horses, twats leaving bottles and litter everywhere, twats walking through our fields with loose dogs, and the farmers field, I think I will get myself a Tshirt with "Everwhere I look I see Twats" you have my sympathy, If I had my way a 50,000 volt electric fence would go up, I would be well happy to go round each morning scraping off whats left of them.

USe Bull electric fencing, the more you touch it the stronger it gets it actually made me feel like i was having a heart attack after touching it a few to many times lol

What a shitty situation for you! I suggest a bull or a herd of rowdy heifers from the local farmer AND an electric fence (the fence can remain afterwards but the cattle will ensure they get used to going around your field in the meantime)

Friends in Hertfordshire had a great sign "Beware of the adders nearest A&E Welwyn Garden City QEII" Kept most people out.
