thanks for replying, i am asking the saddler to bring some out to try, i was just wanting to have a look online at makes, to try and eliminate the ones i don't like, save the saddler bringing ones that arent' suitable

Ideal saddles are very good for flat backed native type ponies, although they are unlikely to have thigh blocks. But I agree with the above, ask your saddler to bring some second hand saddles out to you and obviously give him your requirements so he can bring something that's in the ball park of what you're looking for :) xx

I like the thorowgood T6/Kent and masters for flat backs - v affordable and fit cobs WELL! And very adjustable, don't slip etc...

Your first priority is that it fits the horse and you. Looks and makes are very much secondary to that - saddles look totally different on horses to the way they look on the rack. Don't set your heart on a particular model without knowing it fits you both.
Good luck with your saddle hunting - it's hard and can take some time but well worth it when you find one that is great for you.

Thanks Potash, saves me having to say it and get accused of advertising.

I should warn you that a deep seat does not go with a flat back - you'll get a medium depth seat at best, and a shallow seat makes it much easier. Most fitters are unlikely to have our saddles in stock second hand (well, or new, as we use fitters) - they don't get traded in much sadly.

An Ideal might do the job, depends HOW flat the pony is.
