Making a lunging / turnout area on own land.

Ideally I would love an arena , but financially it won't be this year, so I have been thinking about making an area that can be used for a bit of lunging and for keeping a lamanitic pony on in the summer.

I'm thinking on the lines of taking the top soil off , rolling and leveling slightly, putting some terram down as a membrane then using some equestrian sand.

Has anyone done anything like this, if so did it work.

You may be able to do it but be careful as you may need planning permission to do even that. They could say that although you haven't put in drainage that it could be held to be an arena. It would be a shame to do all the work & then have a planning officer tell you that you have to remove it. Good Luck though.
