OH's hunter makes a noise when he's done a lot of trot/canter work.

Old owner said he makes this noise until he is fully fit. (he isn't yet.)

He seems to be trying to breathe through his mouth as well to compensate?

Horse is 14 now so not young. Old owner had him for 4 years and knew him before he bought him, he hunted him a lot. We've had him a few months.

Are there any supplements we can get him to aid his breathing? OH mentioned the nose strips eventers use to widen the nostrils, would they help?

We didn't have him vetted as paid peanuts for him. He only makes noise when moving it stops when we pull up. Its not a whistling noise its more raspy. Not massively loud but you can hear it if you are riding next to him.

Any help appreciated. Have heard Naf respiratory supplements are good?

Get him checked out by your vet before you start on supplements! He may need a tie-back to enable him to breathe properly.

I wouldn't trust any seller on wind problems! If they know, they're unlikely to tell you!

I sold a 4 year old recently - we THOUGHT he would need a tie-back and took him down to the specialist equine hospital - discovered that he had a fourth branchial arch defect! Surgery is NOT recommended for them, so I sold him at a substantially reduced price becase of the problem.
