£15? That's ace! They sell all that type of fleece at the mill I go to, I might have a try at making myself one :) I wonder if you can buy new sursingles on eBay perhaps? If not have ou got any old rugs? You could pinch them off there?

they sell all the stuff on ebay I did find that it was cheaper to buy a fleece throw extra large, because I needed 6foot 3, than it was to but fleece fabric buy the metre, I paid £4 including postage for the fleece and have plenty for a matching tail guard,

Not attempted a rug yet, but I made this hi viz sheet a couple of years ago, so I don't think a rug would present too many problems:

I adapted a combo rug into a neckless one as well - I just cut the neck off, unpicked the binding and stitched it round the neck, and finished it off with a fake sheepskin pad on the withers. The neckline ended up slightly bigger than it normally would but it looked fine.

I want to make a couple of fleece saddle covers as mine seem to have gone missing in my recent yard move. Can anyone help me with how to sew elastic round the edges? Should it be taut, should I do a normal hem with elastic inside it or use elastic thread? - I have a machine!

That exercise sheet looks very professional!!

Think I will have a bash at making a fleece rug for my boy soon. Made a mini version for the model pony I got my cousin for his 4th birthday recently, so how hard can it be ;) :D Wish I had a sewing machine though, think its gonna be a long task.

I have made lots of saddle covers ,I used to sew a half inch hem round the edge and just thread the elastic through ,even it out try on saddle to check not to tight or loose knot ends and do the last couple of stitches to finish hem .

Thanks!

It cost me £6 altogether - got the hi viz and reflective tape off eBay and made the binding out of some polycotton I had lying about. I already had some cord for the fillet string.

I just used a saddle cloth and a fleece for the pattern. The grey in the picture has sadly passed away now, but she was also a long suffering soul and stood like an angel while I pinned the darts in the rump! My current horse would have freaked and ended up with pins in her bum!

There is a good book that used to be popular called 'Make your own horse clothing' (or something similar) I made a few things out of it as a kid. My horse sported a cooler rug made out of a hospital issue waffle type blanket for years, it was edged with satin dressing gown material and looked very smart
