Has anyone done this and have any tips? Going to get dad to make one for the winters hunting/bathing.
How many lights did you use? (thinking 12, 3 rows of 4)
And how many wats were these? (thinking 150w?)
Roughly how much did it cost?
Do i need fans (a friend has told me i do) ir will just bulbs be ok?

thanks!!

I only have 4, just heat lamps! Does a really good job as I have a mare who starts to shiver if she even sees a bucket of water in the winter!!! I wouldnt want many more as I already melt if I have to stand under them (plaiting)
One yard I worked on had similar set up but with 8 bulbs I think, possible 10.
No idea on watts sorry, they are v powerful bulbs though.
It cost what the heat lamps cost and a piece of chip board as I have them hung of that which is supported over 2 beams across the wash box.
I certainly havent got fans and know people with 'proper' solariums with out!!

Ok, sound reasonably priced! Sorry Lizzie, I highjacked your thread! Ive been after one for ages but dont have masses of money to spend. We have a few single heat lamps that we use for young puppies and I always thought that they would do the job. Thanks

thats what i intend to use, pig lamp bulbs, which we have used for puppies, chicks, dogs etc. Going to get dad to put them on a frame, which will look similar to the ones you can buy. will be made out of wood, and slightly 'u' shaped (if that makes sense), so it will dry sides of horse more effectivly. Just wondered if anyone else had done it, to work out how many bulbs to use. i personally think 6 would be enough as they are hot! i.e. 3 rows of 3, however some people say i will need 14/15. think i iwll start with 9 and can always add more. Going to put ot on a pully system to.

Also will have to put them i assume with the metal guard/reflector things on i assume to? or will this direct the heat too much?

Thanks!
