I have a fleece rug which doesn't fit any of our ponies (correct size just really wide at the front so sits strangely), have tried to sell it with no luck so thought instead of buying a warm exercise sheet (only have a waterproof one) I could make the fleece rug into one.
Just wondered if anyone has done this before?

No, but I would have thought it would be quite easy to do. The only thing is it would be a bit longer (come a bit further down the sides) than your average exercise sheet, but in this cold weather I'm not sure that would be a bad thing?

How were you planning to do it - unpick the surcingle fixings and then cut off the rug just behind the wither bit?

I am so very glad I found a couple of Rambo waterproof/fleecy exercise sheets in a rug sale about 4 years ago. They are hardly ever used with our rufty tufty natives, but when the weathers like it is at the moment, they are used every time they're ridden.

I did it years ago with some old wool day rugs that I had shrunk by washing. Have you got an existing exercise rug that fits, that you could use as a pattern?

I have started it this evening, I put the rug on him, then his saddle and used chalk to draw an outline on it, so i knew it was short enough for girth to be done up.
I have cut along the chalk line and unpicked a surcingle which was still on the bit i wanted, I am now unpicking the edging of the rug so i can sew it to the edge of the new rug.
It is taking ages to unpick and I have to sew it by hand. Hopfully it will turn out ok.
