I've offered to do a couple for a local horse and animal sanctuary to either sell on to raise funds or raffle off as prizes but I've been looking at pictures on the internet for some inspiration and come across a technical glitch and would appreciate some help from anyone who's made them before :o

When you do the rosettes at the sides in quite a few of these pics the ribbon coming down the sides looks quite stiff.

Are they backed by something? If so what?

Also in the picture of this browband there is a little metallic v-shaped bit at the point of the ribbon, anyone know what they are called?

If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it, obviously the better they look the more likely people will want to give more money to the sanctuary :o

Theyre called flag tips, and you want a stiff fabric, cardboard would be fine but if it gets wet it will disintegrate. We had some old blackout curtains laying around which were quite thick and stiff. Once all the glue and ribbons on its nearly rigid. :)

Fantastic! :D Thank you so much! :D

Hi Sandi. I have used laminated paper.....I have a laminator. This should be fine if it gets wet and is very stiff. What a lovely idea of yours though. Maybe I should do that :)

Thank you, I actually got a meter of blackout curtain on ebay last night for cheap so I'll see how I go with that first but I'll bear in mind the lamination idea just in case :)

My friend helps out the sanctuary with lots of various different things and she's always doing things to raise awareness and funds, I can't get out to them to help out as a volunteer because I can't afford the travel costs atm so after enjoying making my own browbands so much I decided I'd ask if she wanted some for the sanctuary to sell :)

It's great because this way I feel like I'm helping a little for what is IMO a very worthy cause and I get to do something I enjoy too :D She's even had a few browbands donated specifically for this from some lovely people so it's only costing me whatever I spend on ribbon, blackout curtain material and centre buttons for rosettes :D

Buttons for the rosettes are pretty hard to find though, I found some really lovely ones on ebay last night and they were £5 for one! I kept looking and I've found another couple of nice ones that are way cheaper though :) I'm trying to tow the fine line between nice looking and cheap ha ha!

Definitely give it a go if you've got some spare time on your hands, I'm sure your local horse sanctuary would really appreciate it :D
