Has anyone done this??

Fatty wears his 24/7, it has helped massively but he is still porkier than I would like and seems to have 'plateaued' at his current weight.

He has developed impressive speed at eating in the muzzle so wondering if people have any suggestions for making the hole smaller. It's a standard shires 'bucket' type.

He is ridden about 4 times a week, mixture of hacking and schooling.
He gets a cup of top spec lite per day, no idea about droppings as he is out in a big group.

I am not sure if grazing muzzles are the same in the UK but mine have a rubbery type material in the shape of a circle at the bottom with a hole for the grass.

I would purchase, after looking at the different sized holes for each size, a muzzle for a smaller horse or pony. Pull out the rubbery circle and glue it over the one currently in his grazing muzzle. Hope this helps and good luck!

without knowing how much forage he is getting (how much is passing through) I would be reluctant to make the hole smaller-you would be better to increase excersise

Tbh I wouldn't want to make the hole smaller, the holes are small anyway and aren't ment to be worn for 24/7 so I would worry about the amount of fibre going through their system.
I agree with getting more exercise into them.

dinky ponies muzzles work differently - they have to get it at the sides, I went from one to a shires one (he ate the dinky one a bit too quick!) and it caused some confusion for a while, if you were to keep switching them he perhaps wouldn't be using his perfected technique quite so quickly? Mine certainly gets more through his than he used to!

Alternatively (and a lot cheaper) make a smaller ring by cutting plastic from the side of a milk bottle or other container and glueing it into place!

How long has he been wearing the muzzle? My pony manages to increase the size of the hole impressively quickly and I have to buy a new one regularly.

Thank you everyone for the replies and suggestions, he's been wearing it about 6-7 weeks, if didn't think the hole had gotten much bigger but it's hard to tell!
